Swedish electrical scooter startup Voi Expertise is shedding 120 folks — round 12% of its workforce — the corporate has introduced.
Round 70 folks dropping their jobs are full-time staff, with the remaining being guide and part-time positions, Voi acknowledged in a press launch. Non-office roles, resembling mechanics and subject employees, are “largely unaffected by the modifications”, in line with the corporate.
CEO and cofounder Fredrik Hjelm stated: “It is extremely tough to bid farewell to a few of our highly-valued colleagues who’ve made vital contributions to Voi.
“(The corporate’s) focus stays on offering the most effective service for our riders and cities, and we’re dedicated to reaching full profitability.”
Hjelm, who cofounded the corporate in 2018, added Voi has diminished “central overhead prices by practically 50% since mid-2022”.
The startup stated final 12 months it had grown its gross revenue by 22% and gross margin by 49%.
The cuts at Voi come after a bruising 12 months for the micromobility sector. In January, electrical scooter and bike corporations Dott and Tier introduced they might merge after the latter laid off 20% of its workforce in late 2023.
German publication Supervisor Magazin reported the merger will worth the brand new firm at €150m — a big lower from Tier’s 2021 valuation of €2bn.
